"Summer afternoon . . . to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language."         Henry James

Summer fireflies and bottle rockets . . . swimming in the big lake . . .  the sound of frogs and crickets and children let loose from the cage of classrooms . . . staying out until the street lights come on or staying up to look at the stars . . . the smell of barbeque and warm skin and fresh flowers . . . thunder storms and the northern lights . . . the crazy feeling that time just might stand still . . .

Art_in_the_Park_logo.jpg

The 25th annual Art in the Park was a big success for Doug Melvin Portraits and Landscapes.

Doug's booth was awarded 3rd place overall with a cash prize and a free entry into next summer's event.

It was great to see many of you at the park and we offer a special thank you to everyone who took home a work of art by Doug Melvin.

The Flash Intro to this website is enhanced by the music of Henry "Ragtime Texas" Thomas.  The song is titled "Bull Doze Blues" and if it seems familiar, Canned Heat borrowed liberally from Mr. Thomas for their song "Going Up To Country."

To the left is the only known photograph of Henry Thomas.  To get to know the enigmatic blues forefather,  check out this article  , this video, or visit
